"If the applicant must be advised about how credits from my university may or may not be accepted by others institutions" What effect would it cause in my retention rate if my university has not been accredited yet? What is the best practice to handle this situation?

When asked about this I reply no college or institution can guarantee transfer of their credits, that's up to the receiving institution.
The question itself can & usually does lead to a more in depth discussion regarding the student's ultimate goals. There may be a determination that the program we offer may not be what's best for the student.

Stephanie,
Some students rest on their credits will transfer to any other school. It is the decision of the receiving institution to make that determination since transferring credits will be used toward their degree or certificate. Articulation agreements have already sorted out what they will take in transfer.

Ophelia,
Articulation agreements are certainly an asset to those schools that have them. Otherwise, it is the student's responsibility to research. There are no guarantees.

The student must be aware about transfer credits from one institution that may or may not be accepted by another institution. This is important because each institution has its own transfer rules- and no transfer of credits is guarenteed. Each student should be advised to look into this if it is a considertaion for them.

An articulation agreement means the institutions agree to accept each others' credits. This way you know in advance what credits are acceptable to transfer and the information can be easily provided to the student instead of having them search for it.
