Life experience credit

Life experience credit is only applicable for us with post-professional students. Generally, for entry level graduate students there is no exceptions for the courses we require as pre-requisites. We are also very strict with our transfer credits, both incoming and outgoing (we are more limited due to our national acreditation) so it is important that this information is in the information we provide our students with.

HI Greg,

I loved to hear about that. I have a friend who is in the situation very similar to that and when I told him about life experience he said that doesn't exist, it is a myth.
I will tell him about that. If you have an institution name I will love to give to him.
He is Director of a big financial company now but can't be promoted due to a lack of high ed degree.
P.s. he works around 18 hrs a day. It's very hard to go to a regular college.

Ursule,
Rule does provide for it, but most schools do not go down that path. Remember you are certifying that they have equivalent experience to the education. Tough to equivalate.

Elizabeth,
Excellent example. Military training can be verified by the DD214.

Greg,
Life experience credit will vary greatly. Legitimacy is very important as you are placing your school behind the award of credit you give.

I find this very interesting! I really never gave it much thought before. However, I can see how these degrees would be of benefit based on the experiences one has in the past to build upon.

Let me give you an example:

A friend of mine did not have a college degree in Business, yet he managed to raise 3.5M (yes, that’s 3.5 million dollars) after writing up a Private Placement Memorandum (PPM) for a venture he and his partners were working on. I had the opportunity to review the documents in detail, and was amazed on the research he did on this. Apparently, so did others and went on to make this a reality. He achieved all of this with no Master's Degree in Business Administration.

Astounded, he told me that he had applied for a MBA based on his experience and successful raise of that kind of capital for his venture. I was very impressed and could see how this would be relevant. So, I guess Life Experience Degrees are not always a bad thing and should be considered based on their merit.

I never knew that was acceptable. I would like to have more information about that, thank you.

I used to work for a college where typically we would see life credits earned for Bachelor's level students. Many times military students would benefit from a number of life credits that would be applied from training they received on the job.

Kelley,
Thank you for posting your process.
