Licensing and Accreditation

It is true that licensing is required and accreditation is voluntary. But, in the practice, if the institution is not accredited, students have problems when they try to transfer credits to another institution.

Renae,

It really depends upon the type of school you have and what your needs are. Not every school would want accreditation.

Patty Aronoff

I believe accreditation is important but it just take so much money. It seems you pay all that money each year, I feel it id a burden to try to do it if you r a small school.

Karen,
This is true. Accreditation is a plan in the future for new schools.

It will take a newly licensed instituion some time to become accredited if it chooses. Many accrediting organiations want a minimum of years licensed and smaller institutions initially may not have enough monies to cover fees etc for the accreditation.

Yes, it happens and it is too hard to explain that to students.

Julio,
Transfer of credits is such an individualized affair. Sometimes even if both schools are accredited by the same body, the credits will not transfer.
