New faces

Sit around a table and we see faces from many different lands. When asked what brought them or their family to the US the answer is to have a better life. This is no different then my family from long ago. It all fits in what I try to help with now in my career. Interesting.

Nachelle,
Absolutely! The more you get to know a student, the better rapport you will have.

I also like to use this as an ice breaker and building rappot. If a student tells me that they moved her from overseas a few years ago, I like to allow them to talk about experiences or just basic conversation I dont get to personal or ask questions that are questionable but i allow them to be themself and gain that rapport.

I agree. I make sure that I connect with each student to let them know and feel that their individual success is important to me.

Tai,
When we look at the prospective students as they individuals they are, we are better at making an important connection for success. No one wants to be just a number.

Each student is an individual and the best way to help them is to learn about them, their families, and their primary motivation for wanting to pursue their education. This is one of the first key steps in helping them change their lives.

Amilcar,

That is what makes our sector such a great place to be. We change lives!

It is true alot of people leave their Country and Families looking for better oporunity. I know that was why I moved. So it is of importance to know where the student come from why they are here and how we can help them accomplish what they set out to do. Every culture has things that are particular to them and know these thing will help us better assist them and avoid any inconvinience.

Ralph,
It is always important to learn about our students, their backgrounds, their hopes, their dreams. They are choosing school in order to change their lives.
