staying up-to-date and compliant

We are a small non-profit organization who has added a for-profit school as a means of generating income to keep us afloat. Although we are an educational center already as a non-profit, the for-profit side of education seems rife with pitfalls as it concerns trending careers, etc. We emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and this industry these days changes every 6 months. I foresee us needing to have more technical people added to our staff so that we can keep abreast of what the newest needs in the workplace are and plan our curriculum accordingly.

Jose,

There is not one source, but you have a great start. So much rests on geographic and industry trends. I would get as much as possible from the areas here your graduates would ultimately be employed.

Patty: As we offer many bachelors degrees as well as many masters degrees, I find it is very important to keep up to date on significant changes on the respective industries we target. We update our programs with certain frequency. At the same time it is a very difficult task to keep updated in all industries and / or careers out there in the competitive world we live today, as it changes constantly. Our Advisory Board as well as our "Facilitators" (professors) give us feed back all the time about industry changes. Is there any "main source" of information regarding the areas covered by curriculums in any specific field per region or state? It is not an easy task to stay updated in all careers all the time...

Bill,

Being proactive will lead you to success. There is always something to learn.

Yes, this is true. One must take every available opportunity to seek out knowledge and stay up to date and compliant. Personaly, I am always reading online rules, laws & regulations to stay ahead of the game for my institution.

Donald,
We can become complacent in our knowledge. Seek every opportunity to learn or teach others.

Compliance is in everyone's best interests starting with the student. Creatively staying on the cutting edge of student and market needs is something that schools of all types have not always been sensitive to. All too often schools become static rather than dynamic institutions. It is pretty hard to lead from the rear!

Nancy,
Schools are required to meet CIE outcomes for completion and placement.
