Transfer of credits

Transferring credits will depend in the receiving institution however is the prospect responsibility find out how that will impact their school plan and base in that make their final decision.

Branden,
Most schools have a policy for the review of potential transfer credits. How long ago the credits were obtained is certainly a factor.

When a prospective student ask aout transfer of credits i explain how old are the classes when the deadline is to submit them in.
If credits got transfered in id tell them when they would actually start class

Just as an FYI, if you participate in the GI Bill, your annual VA compliance survey will require that you receive transcripts from ALL institutions a Veteran attended prior to your school EVEN IF THE SCHOOL ISN'T RELEVANT TO THE PROGRAM YOU OFFER. Interestingly, the VA wants you to get transcripts from a barber school if a Veteran attended that school even if your school is a allied health school where there is obviously no transfer of credit. The VA stipulates that you to do this as part of their "evaluation of prior training" requirement.

SO, when talking to a Veteran, be sure to tell them that your school will need to receive copies of all of their prior transcripts at any school they attended.

I do agree - tranfer of credit - is a very important question- always asked, and it is up to the recieving college.

Andrew,
Transfer of credits can never be assumed. There are so many factors that go into their acceptance.

I do agree with this statement, transfer of credits may set backa student more than they expect, instead of advancing. In addition, deending on their curent number of credits and aid received this may also be ompacted by this process. It is imperative that the student be aware of this upfront.

Transferability of credits is one of the most important things i think should be explained to a student because of the fact that it can determine the difference between a student continuing there education after or having difficulty doing so.

Janet,

You are exactly right! Students often think it is automatic

Natasha,

It is the student's responsibility to thoroughly investigate before enrolling.

I only wish the school I attended allowed me to transfer my credits. I remember how greatly disappointed I was when I was informed after I graduated that my credits were non-transferable.

Knowing that I will definitely make sure my students are well aware before hand so that they can make an informed decision about whether or not to attend a school if their certain course/credits can or can not be transferred.
