Transfer of credits
Transfer of credits is always up to the recieving institution.
Irene,
There should be an official transcript. Official transcripts come in sealed envelopes from the institution and should have an official seal and signature.
Patty Aronoff
Not necessarily, student can provide their sealed transcripts for review. It is up to the institution to determine if any credits can be transfered.
Rose,
Yes. The student must request review and provide an official transcript and any additional documents required by the receiving institution.
Patty Aronoff
do the transfer of credits have to be sent to the school directly
ANDREA,
A great approach. We are training for their next chapter in life.
Patty Aronoff
Yes, transfering of credit is question that is common. However, what I like about our institution is that we get the opportunity to explain that we are not training them for the next level of education, but for a lifestyle change they are seeking. Not being able to get a job is the issue that most people collegestress over so, if they can find an instition who will train them to work in there field of choice; I believe that cut out the unneccesary stressing most college student face, once they have completed their degree.
We have a very detailed policy on this at our school. It is something we also do not talk about unless we have the person face to face with us because it is a little confusing. At our school, sense we are an institution, we do not have general or pre-req classes, our students go to school for what field they want to be trained in so when students bring up transferring credits its such thin ice becuase most do not fit our statues.
Daney,
It is the responsible for seeking information from the receiving school on transfer of credits. Every situation is different.
Patty Aronoff
It is VITAL to know this information beforehand. The amount of times I've witnessed students work hard towards a program and attempt to transfer, only to discover they're credits are not trasferrable is large. As a recruiter, it is important to disclose the information in hopes that they will not need to transfer unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. Not only would it be great to be able to witness them complete their program from beginning to end, but it would elimintate the potential for discouragement if they are denied transferred credits and feel as though they wasted their time.
Kristina,
No guarantees! It takes a review and final determination based on documents received and the school's curriculum.
Patty Aronoff
Isabel,
Agreed! They maintain all student records and responsible for transcripts.
Patty Aronoff
kate,
The registrar is the center of the school and the student records.
Patty Aronoff
potential students ask me this question every single day when they come from another school. i always say i cant gaurentee anything. are acedemic department has to do and audit first.
Yes, correct, We tell the students that transfer credits is up to the receiving institution and it will be done so by the Registrars evaluation the transcripts. Also before any of the credits can be transferred it must be an official transcript.
This is a problem, specially with some students that are required licensure at the end of the program. The curriculum is approved by a state board for the particular institution and there are specific information needed to be able to pass the required licensure exam. The registrar is the key person to go to.
We send our students to the Registra to check their transfere credits. It would be wrong to mislead students and then make the students retake a course that they thought was transferable. Best to use the Registra to be on the safe side for the interest of the students.
Gordon,
Exactly! This is why it is an extensive process with much thought.
Patty Aronoff
David,
Correct, the evaluation is completed based on official transcript and a catalog from the institution where the credits were earned.
Patty Aronoff
Carol,
That is a common practice. The registrar is the heartbeat of the school.
