Transfering credits

In my opinion this subject is something very important to have knowledge on how to explain or give a correct answer to a student when is asked, since many of them will transfer credits and we shoudl know the process.

Ricki - I've seen that done as institutions as course exemptions but not as transfer of credit. When exempted from a course where a student has demonstrated mastery of the information taught in the course, the student still needs to take another course to have enough credit to graduate.

Ricki,

Interesting...not all institutions provide that opportunity.

Zulma,
I would always go back to the verbiage that is stated in the catalog. You can't go wrong.

Brittany,

Many schools are in the same situation. More reason for students to do their own research.

Our school even has an option where students can test out of a class if they are very skilled in the subject. This way they don't have to start from the basics and can continue to learn more advanced skills.

As admissions representatives we should fluently know the process of transferring credits to be able to efficiently service our students and provide them with accurate information.

Each school is going to have a different policy on transfer credits. I know that my school is not totally designed for transfering credits to another school.

Frances,

The best bet is to stick with the information that is provided in your catalog. Essentially it means it is up to the receiving institution on the transferability of credit.
