Questions about competing institutions.
What is a good standard answer when asked to offer an opinion of a competing institution?
Warren,
Very good advice! The focus should be on your school and why it is the best fit rather than speaking negatively against the competition.

the first time they ask, I ignore it and stress the positives about our school. it has been my experience, typically, they don't ask again but if they do we do a comparison.
Jerry,
Great response! We should focus on what we have to offer so that the student makes the final decision.

When ask to offer an opinion of a competing institution, my response is always the same. I simply say that while I have heard of the particular institution, I do not work for them and have not done research into what they have to offer. What I can tell you and show you is what we have to offer, then I would recommend you visit the "competition and make an informative decision.
Lisa,
Very good advice to the student. They need to do their own research to comparison shop. We can not speak for the other school, only state about our own.

I always tell them everything about my Institution, answer all question in a positive mannor but reccommend they call the institution they are asking about to find out the information they are seeking because I dont know.
David,
Talk about your institution! Do you really know about the competition? The student probably has already done their research on both.
