Social media can be a great marketing tool, but it is important to remember that unlike many other forms of marketing, it is more of a two-way conversation than traditional advertising.

When an institution decides to utilize social media for marketing purposes, it is really important to ensure that a solid plan is in place and there is someone responsible for responding to social media requests in as near real-time as possible.

Social media is a new frontier and we are just learning the scope of its power. Each school will determine its policies but any part of its existence that relates to advertising and promotion must adhere to rule.

Patty Aronoff

can you explain in more detail the rules with social media?

Setting the right expectation is key to attracting the right student for the right programs at the right time for them. If the potential student responds to an ad claiming rags to riches, it's just a terrible situation for all types of reasons.

We have a responsibility to be transparent and provide proper guidance. I think that all starts with the advertising.
