Can an institution stream on campus events on their social media websites without the consent of the current student body?

This is an excellent practice! By signing the release the student allows the school to use them in their social media. You are being proactive!

We have all of our entering students sign to accept or decline whether they allow the school to use their photo or video on our social media page. We feel by doing this at enrollment eliminates missing a student.

Your school should have a policy for use of students photographs and media projects out to the general public. Most generally they would sign a waiver releasing the use of the photo or work for school purposes.
