New Rep
As a new admissions rep, I would like to be able to communicate with my my potential student better. what's the best way to gain their trust?
Absolutely. That is really true in any situation where you are interacting with someone else. One always needs to listen to someone else in order to get to know them and their wants/needs. Only then can an agent or recruiter really meet the needs of the potential student.
I believe showing empathy and being honest works well. Making the effort to truelly listen to someone can go a long way.
I agree you have to be honest and upfront with the student to understand on what they want and what they need for information on topics and courses as well. If you aren't genuine, students will probably see through that. Show genuine concern for their futures and effectively communicate a willingness to help them in their educational pursuits.

I find the best way to gain a student's trust is to ask them questions, be an active listener, and provide them with feedback that is not only valuable but insightful as well. Building a rapport with your students will allow them to open up to you more, and even if you provide them with your own experiences they will appreciate your feedback.
The best way to gain a prospective student's trust is to listen. I agree that it is important for an admissions representative to gain the trust of a prospective student; however, it is important to remember that the most important thing is addressing the concerns of the student, not getting that student enrolled at the college being represented.
I agree you have to be honest and upfront with the student to understand on what they want and what they need for information on topics and courses as well.
I'm also a new admissions representative and agree with the importance of being genuine and sharing real-life experiences. Putting prospective students at ease and building trust will help them envision themselves as part of the school community.
Yes, I completely agree. It is important to remain open and honest because often times a student is going to choose the school because of their interaction with their admission officer. I find it usuful to include real life examples to relate to the student.
