Transfer credits
Sometimes it is a challenge when a potential student inquires as to whether or not their credits will transfer to another school. It is in their best interest to remind them they need to check with receiving schools regarding the acceptance of transfer credits. While they don't always like that answer, this course offers a great reminder why it is important for us not to make assumptions or generalizations.
The transfer of credits to another institution is determined exclusively by the receiving institution. No person can imply or guarantee that their credits will be transferable.
The reality here is that it's always going to be up to the accepting institution. We as admissions representatives can't say whether or not another college will accept our credits.
The big thing I stress with transfer credits is that there are a number of factors that go into whether a course will come in - grades, type of class, whether the class is comparable to something that the school the student would like to attend - et al. I don't know how much this applies to career colleges, but the language I used to use at my previous school was the following. "We will look at everything you have. We will evaluate everything that you have, however, I cannot make any promises about what might or might not come in."
Also, the student will want to get any infomation they can from the recieving school on transfer of credits. Many things can come into play when a school accepts transfer of credits or not. I know that I am looking at PHD programs in an unrelated field to my Bachelor and Masters programs and I am finding alot of information from the receiving schools so that I can make the decision that is best for me.
