Not taking the role of an Admissions Rep lightly!
I can see so far that it is of the utmost importance to become as thorough as possibly regarding training in the role as an admissions Representative. It is so much deeper than just enrolling someone.
I agree with you. As an admissions representative we have the ability to help someone change their life. It is important to understand what they want to do in their career and what they need in from a college to help them get there. As an admissions representative we must also understand that the school you work for is not always a good fit for the student and it's okay to tell them that it's not. We must always do right by the student. By making sure you help the student then you will feel like you are being helpful and making a difference in your daily work.
We are in a learning environment so it only stands to reason that we should practice what we preach. Change is necessary to stay relevant and we have to keep up with the changes brought on locally or statewide or nationwide. In that effort, we must keep learning.
I could not agree more with you. As a new admissions rep I have had to take in a great deal of knowledge just to know the basics. I can already tell there will always be plenty for me to learn. I will never be done learning. This is a great aspect of my career.
As a new Admissions Rep I am realizing that in order to be successful in my role, I need to gather as much information as possible. I need to learn, learn, learn. I don't take this role lightly at all. I want to pride myself in my career so I can best serve my school and our students!
I agree with you Verna. We need to strive to become experts regarding information about our school and programs we offer. This doesn't just help us to stay compliant, but it allows us to serve the student in the greatest capacity by being able to address their issues with accurate information. Ultimately, state guidelines and mandates exist to ensure that students are protected. By becoming thoroughly aware of the regulations and our institution's framework, we serve the students in a just and fair way.
