Catalog

I find in important that a prospective student fully understand the importance of the catalog

Definitely agree with this. I remember when I was applying for schools that it was a great comprehensive tool to delve into the school and find key info needed. Then review the important info with a recruiter to ease any questions I might've had.

I believe a mandatory test afterwards might be a good idea. I applied for a school that had an online orientation and they had the most important parts of the catalog highlighted. I had to do a test based on what I read. It made me read it though.

Charmaine,

Do you have any suggestions on ways to make sure a student reads the catalog?

Kimberly Stein

Although I read my college catalog, I wonder how many students really read it? Its very informative yet I am curious if schools are doing their best to make sure eqach student reads it?

I agree. I am learning the importance of the catalog and the need for it to be accurate. Communication about the use of the catalog and the policies established within needs to be followed by the Admissions office. This will keep the relationship between the students and the school strong

I agree. It is also a good way to cover yourself in case something is missed during an interview. The students have it in writing.

The catalog should be your "go to" guide. Every time we have an new print I write "desk copy" on one and keep it for reference.

The catalog is the first thing I asked for when I was going to school/looking at schools. Even after enrolled i kept a catalog to see my place and keep track of what all classes that needed to be completed. Somewhat of a timeline. or progress line...

Too often the importance of the catalog is overlooked by the admissions representative. This resource is extremely important when informing the students of expectations, obligations, and rules and procedures that will impact their success.

The catalog must be adhered to by both parties without any short cuts or special exceptions.

In the initial interview, we provide the student with a copy of our catalog. It is very effective because we get it in their hands immediately and we are able to pinpoint certain things when they have questions.

I agree. There is a plethera of information from dress code, to attendance, chain of command, etc. We recently introduced our catalog online through our student portal so that the students can have access at any time.

I agree. The catalog gives the students all of the information they will probably ever need while attending school. It is extremely informative and a great resource.
