Some reps go to a graduation because it is mandatory. They hang around and socialize with other reps and then they leave, maybe having talked with their student's family. I, personally don't believe that this is the type of representative who will ever realize their true professional potential in the admissions field. If I may be so bold, I don't even believe that this individual will probably continue in the admissions field for any notable length of time.

The graduation is where a professional admissions representative has the opportunity to internalize the "why" of the work that they do. Talking, not only with one's own students, but also with as many families as practical solidifies the rep's belief system in what they do by direct exposure to the end result of their, and their students, labors.

It is important for the rep to take in knowledge in all the areas discussed in this series of lessons for the admissions rep to study. But without a core belief that the representative is truly making a difference in a young, or in other cases adult, persons life, the rep will just be going through the motions. When the rep develops a passion for why they are doing their work, it becomes a calling and their belief is both apparent and contagious.

The graduation is a day or recognition and celebration for the students and their families, but it is also a day where the wise rep feeds their passion for their work.

it is a time to show that hard work in school can payoff for the grad,he or she has finished their program

I let students know I'm there for them from A to Z. From the time they enroll until they walk across the stage.

couldnt agree more! Best time of some peoples lives

I believe attendance is important. It shows that you care about the students and the quality of education they obtained. It should be a celebration.

I agree 100%. It gives your students a feeling that evryone cares at their school and that they are not just another number or body. I believe it is very important to show up and participate in the graduation ceremonies.

I agree with all of you who responded on the graduation forum. I too believe attending graduation is important to the continued success of our students. Since our school had their first graduation in Sept. of 1997 I have only missed two and we do them quarterly. The reason I missed was work related. I enjoy them tremendously.

i agree this is the best part of my job!

I really believe that it is a good idea for all college personnel to attend because gives the student a good feeling, also shows the college personnel how much the student appreciates what the personnel has done for them.
