Social Media

Different marketing strategies are key in schools being successful, especially now when everything is so technologically oriented. I think that social media is going to play a huge role in advertising for different schools and can be very successful. I wonder if this will be taken into consideration and if advertising on these types of sites will become more regulated eventually.

Today's students are very technologically savvy. They are doing research and taking the time to shop schools. With so many options, and schools being required to be transparent, social media is playing a key role in delivering information to students. It's also a great way to connect with students, as they are more likely to respond to a message via fb or twitter than answer their phones.

Thats a great point. I never thought about the use of social media and how it would develope into this market.

Bob,

The recruiting/advertising rules are the same, no matter what media is being used.

I couldnt agree with you more. Social media is a great way to advertise but is also an opportunity for those who want to trash a company.

Are thier specific regulations in regards to using Social Media to market to potential students?

Social networking for marketing for schools is very effective, In part because it is a referral basically

Social media is a great tool for retention by providing student recognition for small successes on their way to graduation. In return, this indirectly creates a marketing tool that reaches their friends and family who sees this success and wants to follow in their footsteps.

For a school to be active on social media can play a huge role in "humanizing" such a large entity. It will help students feel more comfortable with the school.

I would hope so, I have had plenty of recruiters find me for different positions on Facebook and Linken.

Social media will play a significant role in advertising. However, using social media will also bring a number of challenges. Someone will have to maintain say, a Facebook page, and respond to any questions and comments posted there. In addition, one should be aware of "trolls" or disgruntled individuals who may use social media to hound a college for their own perverse fun. So new challenges certainly arise with social media.

Social Media will play a key role in the future of marketing to prospective students. I think this will be considered heavily moving forward.

Agreed! The best way to reach a mass population the fastest way possible is social media.

I as well agree that is the easiest way to get a college brand out they and its has been trusted since social media started.
