Be honest

It is important to be honest and ethical about transfer of credits. We all know it is up to the receiving institution and I am not afraid to tell a student or his/her parents that it is up to the receiving institution. But make sure you let them know that our students work in their field upon graduating. I found that is helpful. So always stay ahead of the game as to what graduation rates are, placement rates, etc.

It is very important not to give students any information that is not correct. So many potential students have gotten upset about wrong information that they never enrolled. We always say that they will have to have an evaluation completed to find out about transfer credit.

Honesty is very important. I always base my conversations with students on "worst case scenarios". I prepare them for the possibility of receiving no credits and by doing so I've found that when they do receive credit it just adds more to their buy-in to the school.

I have dealt with a lot of interested students about transferring credits. It is hard to tell them that potentially only some or no credits may transfer. Although this does need to be said, it crushes some of the individuals I deal with and deters them from continuing to persue an education.

I completely agree. As a admissions representative prospective students often place a great deal of trust in us, especially if it is their first time enrolling in college. With that being said, I believe we have an ethical obligation to be completely honest and upfront regarding transfer of credits, as well as with all other information.

Being honest, keeps yourself and your school out of trouble. Then you know that you are doing absolutely everything you can for the student

Absolutely!...Honesty is the best policy and no matter how uncomfortable YOU might feel I think the students will appreciate it in the long run!

Honesty is the best policy in life outside of work... so why not in a business where it also affects others' lives! Honesty is key!!

Full disclosure is definitely important and will help not you maintain your morals but also in the best interest of the student!

Honesty is always the best policy!! It is uncomfortable, but at least you are not misleading in this. Students should be understanding.

It is crucial to be honest about transfer of credits. You should have the integrity of your school as a top priority.

I completely agree with you Marilyn, it is vital that we are honest about the transfer of credits. Not only is it important to be honest about credit transfer it is important to be honest in every other step of the registration process because if you are not it will catch up to you in the end and not only you but your school might get into trouble.

I agree that honesty up front is the way to go. It allows you to always stay on the same page and to avoid any sticky situations when a student comes back at you. We all know the truth of how our credits will transfer, so we should not have any problems with talking about it.

Honesty is of top importance when it comes to the transfer of credits. It depends on the receiving institution. You never want to tell a student that credits will transfer because honestly you dont know. So many variables can arise.

tara,

You are right. Being honest and realistic regarding transfer of credits and any other issues will ensure that the student has not been misled.

Yes i would agree. It is very important to not only be honest, but realistic when informing a student of whether or not their credits will transfer.

Absolutely - honesty at all times - providing false or misleading information to your students is one of the quickest ways to lose credibility

I agree. Full disclosure is always the best practice in this regard.

I like what the above comment says about "changing lives". If you truly believe that and live and work by that statement you do in fact actually "change lives".

I agree it would be tragic to be dishonest about the credits or any thing for that matter,we are lucky to have a job that we can really change lives and just think what it would do to the reputation of the school.
