Same here Janet! I always encourage students to visit all the schools they may be interested in applying to. They can then make an informed decision on what's best for them in their academic career.
I know many potential students want a comparison and even get pushy in asking for a comparison. I simply tell them that I do not discuss other schools, because I am not an authority on other schools. I let them know that I cannot give them advises on another school because I do not work there and am not familiar with their practices. They typically respect that answer. I can only tell them the benefits that our students receive, such as hands on training.
We really encourage prospective students to visit our campus as well as the campuses of competitors. We feel strongly that the atmosphere and tone of the meeting as well as the campus tour helps to illuminate differences between schools without having to say a word about them. Experiencing a campus environment in person really makes a difference.
I have been speaking to students on a daily basis for 6 years, both in the classrooms as a presenter and on the phone, inviting students to visit our campus. I very seldom have a student ask how my school compares to another. Being able to develop a quick rapport with the student and identifying quickly what they are interested in most, helps to narrow their focus to you and what you have to say. If they ask about a comparison, let them know that not every school is right for everybody and encourage them to visit as many schools as they can.
Asking you to compare to another school is a strong indicator that they are not sure of what they are looking for in a school to begin with.
I just let them know that I dont discuss other schools. If they want information on that school, then they need to call them.
I always emphazise in my school's strengths and invite them to also visit or call the other school, ask the same questions they ask me and compare and make the best decision based on their needs.
Some students really want this information - but we do the same. We bring the focus back to what our institution has to offer and stay clear of commenting on other programs.
Yes I do the same thing. When a student has a question about our program in comparision with another institutions, I simply tell them that I can't really answer that because honestly, I don't know enough about their program to compare.
I discuss our school and encourage them to visit other schools they are interested in as well. Gather all the information to decide which school will meet their expectations for their career goals.
When I speak with students that ask that question, I try to emphasize the the features and benefits of attending our school. I let them know that in all fairness to the other institution that I cannot comment on another school since I am not familiar with their programs. I suggest that they research other schools as well so that they can make comparisons and come to their own conclusions.
When I have callers that ask that question, I emphasize the the features and benefits of attending our school. I tell them that it would not be fair to them for me to comment on another school since I am not familiar with their programs.
