You really have to focus in on what is best for the student. Ask them that and listen to what they say. Highlight what your school has to offer that the student mentioned was important to them.

Of course it is best to emphasize your school's strengths but sometimes it may be interpreted as the other school having a weakness. Graduation from a post-secondary school is not a guarantee, but we have a school in our area that does advertise on billboards that graduation IS guaranteed after 4 years. I am not sure how this is possible but it surely seems to degrade all other schools that do not make this claim. Yes, they do state "guaranteed".

I agree. We invite our students in for a one-on-one career planning session. This allows to sit meet one-on-one with our students to discuss their goals, expectations and needs. We then can make sure we are the best fit for them or give them advice on what may be a better option.

I believe in order to help a student make an informed decision, it is best to use active listening to pair the students needs to what the school has to offer a student.

I always help the prospective student articulate their goal and plan for the future. Then I help them find out if my school's program serves their plan.
