Diploma mills.

More and more prospective students are coming in to our school with "diploma-mill" diplomas. The U. S. Dept. of Education surely has the manpower and the court system to back them up-so why don't they start shutting down some of these diploma mills. Many on our list of unacceptable proof of graduation (for Title IV funding) have been on the list for years!

We confirm proof of graduation throughout our admissions process, before a student starts class. It's very disappointing to inform a student that their diploma is unacceptable.

It is very disappointing to hear stories of students who have spent tons of money on getting something that isnt even real.

Your school should provide you with a list of schools that would be unacceptable and if a student does fall into this group, it should be the reps responsibility to refer them to a GED program.

I have found that many Diploma Mills are online schools. Our Enrollment Processor checks out any diploma that appears fraudulent or suspicious. It's important to have students provide their documents as early on in the process as possible for verification.

It has not been our practice to verify undergrad degrees, just High schools and GED's. We rarely get students who already possess an undergrad degree of any form, just area diplomas and/or certifications. Your statement is definitely something I'll bring to the attention of my superiors - good to know.

We recently dismissed a student from a program for both unsatisfactory academic progress, and it was determined he had presented a "diploma mill" undergrad degree. I don't think these two things are a coincidence.

It’s scary to think that there are "diploma Mills" out there! How do when know what a diploma mill is just by looking at the degree?
