The Cost of Misrepresentation
Of all of the potential consequences and costs associated with misrepresentation, which do you feel is the most detrimental?
The reputation of the school and it's programs within the community.
The reputation of the school and all of it's instructors, instruction and curriculum
While I think a student would be upset that they were lied to, I think the school's reputation will be damaged the most. One angry student shares his/her experience with 10+ people and the reputation can be destroyed very quickly.
School's reputation. Once the school's reputation is damaged, everything else will fail.
misrepresentation can hurt the school's reputation.
Elizabeth,
Your'e right, it is the domino effect - and the most significant detrimental outcome is a student, caught in the situation, who decides not to continue pursuing his/her educational and career goals!

I feel that the loss of your reputation is the most detrimental consequence of a misrepresentation. All it takes is one misleading or false word(s) and you can potentially lose a student. Actually, you never lose just one student, because the misled student will tell someone, and he or she will tell someone, and so on.
Any misrepresentation can definitely hurt the reputation of the school, instructors and administration.
Damaging both your reputation as an instructor, and damaging the school's reputation, losing the student's trust.
I also agree, the school's reputation, confidence, and trust in the school is effected by superlative statements.
I believe that the most detrimental thing that can happen is that the student loses faith in the program. In doing so, they discuss this loss of faith with lots of others. Not only have we potentially lost a student, but the program may have lost credibility in multiple peoples' eyes. This can lead to the program being unsuccessful in its goals.
Of all the potential consequences and costs associated with misrepresentation, in my opinion, the most detrimental is the school's reputation. For example, losing accreditation for a specific program severally damages the image of the school's quality of education.
There are several consequences associated misrepresentation including damaging the school`s reputation, causing student frustration, and damaging the credibility of the instructor. Maintaining transparency and integrity are very important to the solvency of the private sector schools.
I feel that the the most detrimental consequence and cost is in damage to the schools reputation. It can lead to false allegations, student withdrawal, and even closure of the school. Misrepresentation does not always have to come from instrucotrs or school officials, but from disgruntled students, the media, govenerning bodies, and the community at large. It only takes a moment to damage a schools reputation and years to build it back up.
Agreed, once the reputation of a school is damaged, it can have lasting affects for years to come. In addition, once a student has lost trust in an instructor or any other faculty member for that matter, it is incredibly difficult to repair that damage.
When instructors try to boost their reputation, as well as the schools representation for personal benefit. It is extremely important to be factual and realistic with human beings around us. If we are not, then we are teaching bad behavior.
Christopher,
Thanks for your observation, Christopher. I have seen instructors exaggerate something to gain favor with students. This not only creates grounds for possible misrepresentation, which can go much further, but it also, as you note, diminish the reputation of the instructor.
