Sustaining the Culture

How can the professional faculty member help to sustain a culture of compliance at his or her institution?

Staff made up with people all on the same page. Consistency within the staff is crucial.

I make each student feel important. I take time to listen to my students as a whole and individually. I make time for each student.

One way, I would think, is to make sure that all instructors are on the same page and support each other. It's when students feel there is a dissension amongst the ranks that things can start to get difficult

By treating all students fairly. Making sure we are respectful to their needs. Also by complying by the polics and procedure and having the students follow those standards.

Instructors need to hold each student in high esteem and keep a honest approach. Keeping students who are negative all the time may be difficult but the instructor should work with these students to better understand the reasons behind their negativity and either help them or introduce them to someone who can help them.

We have to realize that we lead by example, and that our students look to us and look up to us far more than we realize.

I do my best to always be aware of my words and actions. I make each student feel important. I take time to listen to my students as a whole and individually. I make time for each student.

Maintain your personal integrity in all dealings with students or potential students. Treat all students fairly. Respectful interactions with co-workers should also be employed. You can't go wrong with "doing the right thing".

As an instructor, we must always be aware of our actions and our words so that we are holding our students (and ourselves) to the highest standards that have been set. Have the integrity that if we make a mistake to own up to that. This build trust with the students. Also when a student comes to us with a concern that they are our most important activity at that moment and that we listen, do our best to help answer their questions or concerns adn if we cannot, take them to the person that can help them. I had a situation in a class the other day where the whole class had concerns about a situation. The atmosphere in the classroom was "brewing" and I could see that it was going to become a bigger issue. At our break, I went and spoke to both the DOE and Assistant DOE who came and spoke to my class regarding the situation and it defused the situation. Afterwards the class as a whole was appreciative that I took that step to have their concerns addressed.

Have integrity. Do what you say you are going to do. If you have made a mistake and you know you are incorrect. It is important to admit that you have made a mistake and correct the issue. Maintaining good student customer service is crucial. Each faculty member should make sure that when a student contacts you about a question, that you respond to that student within 24 hours max.

Be a leader and demonstrate cultural compliance daily with each student.
