Ethics and Influence

What is your definition of “ethics” and how does it affect your roles as an educator?

Integrity, Character, Honesty, Scruples. All qualities of Ethics. And keeping these standards about us, in front of students sets the level of professionalism needed.

I believe my Ethics are the same as my principles and personal guidelines that I use to live my life. As an educator, other teachers, students and administrators see and hear my ethics and will judge me on them. Reputation is critical in this industry because a bad reputation would discredit my work.

My definition of ethics is basically deciding between what is "right" and "wrong" and these decisions will stem from my upbringing, religion, law, and etiquette. Ethics affects my role as an educator by guiding me to do what I believe to be the "right" thing(s) and serve as a model for my students. Not only do I want to tell them the "right" things, but I also want to show them what is "right" as well.

My definition of ethics is guiding principles which dictate behavior and how to interact with the world and other people.

Respect is a word that is tossed about frequently. Ethics not only ensure that were interact with student, faculty, and staff in a respectful way, but can also allow us to demonstrate professional behavior. Teach by example.
