These are great questions, Tito. I'm guessing that you are using these questions to explore your student's career interests and goals. How do you find your students respond to these questions?

What makes you interested in the medical field?

How will the medical field benefit you with your long term goals?

What made you decide to look into the medical field? How is it different than what you HAVE been doing?

It lets the student share why they see a value in their decision to make a career change.

what makes now agood time to go backto school?
How long have you been thinking about pursuing
this?
What kind of success do you imagine for your self
in this career.
What's happingin your life now that makes this important to you.

One question I like to ask is "Tell me what is going on with you at this point in your life?"

What is it that got you interested in the Medical Field? And what is it that you would do to achieve your goals?

I get the sense that you use this question as a way to understand what led your student to look at a career in a certain field, do I have that right?

I'd caution use of the word "why" to avoid potentially offending a prospective student or causing s/he to become defensive. I might tweak the question to look something like, "With so many professions to choose for your career, I'm curious, what led you to the medical field?"

How do you think that question would work for you, William?

As you know, questions play a vital role in helping you explore the student's environment. This is an intersting question that I'm sure leads to a variety of responses. How does this question help you in exploring your student's environment, Ingrid?

There are so many professions you can choose as your career. Why the medical field ?

Works great...
