Making the decision to attend college is scary for some students and your approach of partnering with them and sharing the common goal seems to help ease their fears. Our students are the experts on their lives and we are the experts for our school, when we can combine the knowledge we have great opportunities to help our students be resourceful and come up with successful solutions. How do you think this impacts your students long term?

I feel that by showing our students that we all share a common goal (their success) and that we all share in the risks as well as failures, allows them to be more open and honest with themselves as well as with staff as to how we can all overcome issues and find creative solutions to their success. I feel that this empowers them and encourages vaccountability and responsibility on all levels

Janice, I love this. So while you are partnering with the student, they ultimately have to make the best decision for them. Great points here.

The most successful enrollments are when the individual comes to a conclusion by him/herself. I see our role as one to provide good information so the individual can make an informed decision.

YVETTE,
Great awareness to have in regards to making an impact with your students. Flexibility is key to connecting in a meaningful way with your students.

I NEED TO RECOGNIZE THE DIFFERENCES IN LEARNING CAPABILITIES OF ALL STUDENTS. TO INCORPORATE FLEXIBLE TECHNIQUES TO MEET THEIR NEEDS AND I BELIEVE THAT WILL MAKE A STRONG IMPACT ON ALL STUDENTS.

It sounds like you've found a number of positive ways to collaborate with your students, Linda. That's great! Sometimes you might be the only person that takes the time to listen and show your support. I imagine that your students appreciate having you on their side.

My students meet me when they are enrolling in school at this time we get to talk about anything
from children to being a single parent. I encourage them to move forward this was a choice they made, and if they are facing any problems please let me know. I also go into the classroom when I get feedback from the teachers and let them all know how proud I am of them and continue to move forward.

Another interesting question, Linda. I think that collaborating with your students allows for the greatest impact when it comes to their lives. Afterall, we're looking to help them make their own best decision concerning their futures. How do you typically collaborate with your students now?
