That looks like an approach that could help. Give it a try and let us know how it works out for you. If others have suggestions for Natasa please feel free to share.

Dr. Jean Norris

One way would be to slow down a little when executing tasks and take the time "now" instead of "later" to double check my work. This would perhaps allow me to feel confident with the completed task and I would not feel as though I need to look over the whole project once it's done. I actually just prevented myself today from falling into this habit! This was due to a colleague offering to talk to me about my work, which made me feel more confident about it overall.

I'm sure your team appreciates your eye for detail combined with being a team player. It takes all types to have a well-balanced team. Based on your comments that seem reflect a level of perfectionism, how can you adjust your approach so that you can move forward and efficiently complete tasks?

Dr. Jean Norris

I believe that I have many characteristics of a Completer Finisher and a Team Worker. As a Completer Finisher, I pay attention to all the details and am not satisfied until I have reviewed something at least 30 times. Yes, an exaggeration, but sometimes it doesn't feel like one! Although it’s good to care about a project, this tendency has great drawbacks because it sometimes prevents me from finishing a task efficiently and moving forward, on to another task. As a Team Worker, I can relate well to others and provide much support, but it is difficult to then delegate responsibilities. I would prefer to have more characteristics as the Resource Investigator and the Implementer so that I may take my team’s ideas and turn them into something valuable.

Great awareness Mickie, teams need the implementer types!

Dr. Jean Norris

I am mostly an implementer. I make sure things get done. I think that by recognizing the other roles it helps to make me more patient with others.

Great awareness Maureen. It sounds like you are establishing yourself as a subject matter expert and can potentially help your team in that manner. What else can you specifically do to help your team members?

I'm a spealist. I like to work hard at motivating and encouraging my fellow team memebers. I'm in admissions and I'm always trying to be the top performer as well as the most knowledgable. I need to work harder at trying to help my team members more often.

It's interesting but not uncommon that you can perform in multiple team roles and simply being aware of the roles can help you to appreciate (and even step into) the other roles. Thank you for your post!

I found some of myself in most categories. Very much an Implementor, very organized, conservative and disciplined not so resistive to change though. Definitely a chairman, good listener good natured. I'd like to be able to take more time as monitor evaluator to improve processes and be a stronger Shaper with more buy in from my team.

It's great to be flexible when working within a team and it sounds like the personalities of your team allows that flexibility. Thank you for posting.

I believe I bounce from one type to another based on the challenges that are given to my team and I. We all work very well together, and I believe that our backgrounds and personalities truly help this smooth work atmosphere.

Karla, your role is important in any team. How do you ensure that all of the roles are covered?

Dr. Jean Norris

Wow! It seems like you and Karla are on the same page. How would you like to improve your team role?

I am a team leader, I organize everyone's thoughts and goals together.

Antonio, thanks for sharing this. It sounds like you have a great understanding of where you fit into your team. Plus, it looks like you have a plan in place moving forward. Great work.

Dr. Jean Norris

I believe I am a persistent worker and open to learn every single day from my mistakes and from my co-workers. For instance, I consider myself above a normal socialized person in my personal life and at work looking for strong relationships with other organization. I have improved myself with my co-workers implementing and saving database to keep contacts. I will focus more on learning more about soft wear where I can keep about data for 5 years and make me more organized.

I think the type of team player I am emcompasses a little of all the roles that are presented. One of the ways I would like to improve is to narrow down what I am good at and try to focus on two of the 9. I think this will help others not look at me as a know it all or a dictator.

So it looks like your flexible, a great asset when working as a team. Thank you for posting!
