Effective Communication After Enrollment
How often should you reach out to students once they have enrolled within the course? Should admissions check to see if students are adjusting okay or should another department handle this task?
Belinda,
Absolutely! Continuing to keep in touch with students and acting as their advocate after they enroll is key. I'll bet this helps with student retention, too. Thank you for posting!

Admissions is the initial person who the student built the rapport with, therefore I believe we should be the one to follow with them within the first term of their classes and communicate any concerns to other departments to ensure everyone is on the same page and provide a resolution for the enrolled student.
I also reach out in various ways to keep in contact with my students between the time of enrollment and starting class. I will send emails that contain articles or preparation checklists to be sure they are ready for the start of class. I will call to ask if there are any last minute questions. I will send a personal note or a text message to follow up with questions. All of this is done as a way to let the student know I am there for support throughout the entire admissions process.
Latico ,
This is a great way to make sure the student is doing well. What are some ways you can help the student to feel comfortable in their transition into other departments?

I reach out to the student as often as possible, in passing or in private, it makes the student more comfortable and at ease to come to me with any problems that they may have. Yes, I believe admissions should check to see if the student is adjusting okay, because we are the first point of contact that the student encounters.
That's a great question LaToya and I'm curious what your thoughts are on this subject? This seems like a great opportunity to continue building rapport with your students and allowing them to ask questions.
