reading the students/ clients

what if you come across someone who is challenging to read? what other areas would you focus on?

Another reason why you might not be able to read someone is because you have not listened well enough to know where they are coming from.

Asking different questions is a great approach, Tiffany. It might be that the questions you asked initially didn't "hit home" for the student. Being flexible enough to adapt to your student is a wonderful way to help them open up on their terms.

If I come across a person that is challenging to read, I would focus on trying to ask them different type of questions to figure them out more. Sometimes people definately are hard to read and sometimes they are hard to understand.

I'm guessing that when you say "challenging to read" you're talking about their body language, is that right? There are many other areas that you can look and listen for cues, such as vocal tone, rate of speech, and eye contact, just to name a few. It's helpful to look to more than one area for cues for the feelings behind the message. Communication is a fascinating subject and there's a great deal of information out there on how to "read" body language, etc. It might be helpful to do a search online to learn even more. Good luck.
