THis is a great question, I dont think there is any special skill you need except to listen and observe what that persons attitude it like. The eyes and body language tells me everything about the person. If they are lonely, tired, looking for special attention. Thier voice is reaching out or closing up, if on the phones. The attitude in the voice helps open up the conversation.
