Gambel, Great awareness! Will you provide an example of what you would like to say?
Dr. Jean Norris

The detail that are currently missing from my voicemails is sense of urgency. I do not seem to add that in to my voicemails, making getting a call back that much harder for myself. I need to change the way I word my messages, make them more detailed and personalized, and stop using a general message.

Lindsay ,
What would you say are the most important parts to include in a voicemail?

Dr. Jean Norris

Sabrina,

GREAT! Remember they are busy people and need a reason to call back.

Dr. Jean Norris

I believe I rush through the message too quickly. I am trying to cover so much information in such a short window, I tend to speak quickly. A lot of our messages are left on cell phones, so you only have an alotted amount of time before it cuts your message off. I need to slow down and cover the important parts.

After thinking about the voice mails I leave I think I need to add excitement when I talk. I can be very formal. But also, I need to tell them what I need them to as I have a tendency to ask for them to do it.

My biggest issue is the speed of my messages. I always have personality, state what is in it for them, give them a course of action. I just feel that I am doing it all entirely to fast. I will work on some pauses especially on the phone number dashes as stated in the lesson.

Sally, Great awareness! What specifically will you do to make your voicemails more personal?
Dr. Jean Norris

My voicemails miss my personality and the personal touch. I am way to formal and scripted. I am going to try in the future to use the more personal approach.

Julie, Great! Will you give an example of the humor you will use? and how?
Dr. Jean Norris

This section has offered some new tools that I have yet to try. I look forward to exploring and introducing humor into my voice mail messages.

Danielle, Great awareness! Take a step further-- what else can you say in your voicemails?
Dr. Jean Norris

I see the change you are trying make, Brenda, and I am curious if there isn't a different approach. What is another action you present while leaving your voicemails?
Dr. Jean Norris

I need to slow down when leaving message sometimes I'm in a hurry to get all the information out. I also need to give them alternate ways to contact me and not just a phone number.

One thing that is sometimes missing in my voicemail message is the action to take. Instead of telling the caller to call me back, I have been asking them to call me back. This is a change that I can easily make.

That's right, Teri! Personalizing your messages is just another means to building that rapport with your student. It's nice to place yourself on the receiving end, what would you like to hear from an admissions counselor?
Dr. Jean Norris

I do the same thing. I've always been afraid I'd sound to fakey using words like exciting and fantastic but I think I will use one new word until I become comfortable and then add more. It can't hurt to try!

Richard,
This your opportunity! What is one way you can improve your voicemail techniques?
Dr. Jean Norris

I need to devise ways to be more creative in my voicemails.

Amanda,
Thanks for sharing. Can you give an example of what you might say?
