Researching New Publications

How have you gone about researching and seeking out new stations and publications to add to your market book information?

I utilize Google a lot for business related stuff. However I have noticed that whenever I advertise, whether it is Radio or Newspaper, the sales people from everywhere call me.....giving me lots of new info!

My organization does most of the advertising online so I'm not familiar with any of the websites you have listed. I have made note of them and am excited to check them out. Thanks!!

I conducted a focused study on one student (small test run before a larger survey is to be conducted). I asked this student about her avenues of social media, TV shows watched, music stations, talk radio stations. I also asked her, where she likes to hang out with friends, where she shops and what she does on her spare time. I am hoping, when I conduct a larger survey, that the information will open new avenues of advertising or new leads.

Relationships are definitely key to staying up to date on the industry.

As far as other free resources to research new publications, stations, etc., below is a list of some of what we've found most beneficial in the past:
http://www.onetvworld.org/
http://www.backchannelmedia.com/
http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/radioandrecords.html
http://www.mediapost.com/

I come from the sales side of advertising.

I've sold newspaper advertising as well as television advertising but I've also worked events in conjunction with radio sales reps, so keeping close contact with all of my fellow sales reps has helped me a lot in gather station/paper information.

These close relationships have also helped me stay up to date on the advertising industry as a whole.
