Criminal background checks for key management and student facing positions are sometimes required. Credit checks are sometimes done for employees with financial responsibilities.It would be nice that all employees pass a place for it.
Security is very important on our Campus. We all do what we need to do to ensure safety at all times.
I agree a credit check is not important but a background is since it ditermines the quality of students you are enrolling, even though we accept all students we do put them on probation.

Conducting background checks on all of your students can be used as a preventative measure. What happens if students have criminal issues while in school?

In our school we do background checks for all potential students. Reason is that we are teaching them a very specific and unique trade and in all likelihood may be offered employment after successful graduation from our program.
we prefer to not have any surprises for the student and our company once we are ready to offer a job.

The criminal background check I can agree with but the credit check I do not agree with it has absolutely no bearing on whether a person can do there job or not.
I guess my question then becomes what does a credit report have to do with your ability to do your job?
I also agree, criminal background check should be done to all employees regardless of the position.
There are positions where people that deal with finances that require background checks, all the finance personnel, bursars offices, financial aid, even registrar - there is delicate student information that needs to be protected.
The background check information will be held confidentia and will be viewed only by Admissions Committee members .
