The Impact of Disability
Although the module was very informative, I feel as if we should take our responsabilities a step further or "to the heart". Each and every student deserves the upmost respect and assistance for the decision they made to commit to school and achieve their goals. Showing students we care and inform the students that we are here for them goes a long way, especially for any student who may have a disability.
Wayne,
I agree. I've seem many times in the past where instructors, feeling maybe sorry for a student with a disability, or feel overburdened by the needs of the student in the classroom, etc. simply "pass" the student in the class to move them forward. This is so wrong on many levels. Training is so vital for faculty when it comes to students with disabilities and our obligations under the law. We want to make sure that we aren't inadvertently or not, setting a student up for failure.

I agree and in the same instance, as instructors or teachers we also have to careful with the level of sympathy we may show towards students with disabilities. All depends on the individual(student)may take signs of sympathy as another disability thrown upon them. I feel interacting with a student with a disability as equally as a student without and they can see this gives them another sense of accomplishment and motivation.
Scott,
Absolutely-it demonstrates our passion and commitment to understanding and helping our students.
