FA Access Corrections
Does your institution utilize FA Access for corrections? If so, do you find the process to be simplified?
I am able to make corrections with documentation, such as a signed verification form from the student listing number in household/number in college. Same with AGI verification if DRT was not used by obtaining tax transcripts.
Nichole,
It is important for colleges to find the best method for their students. I do agree that it is critical for students to be engaged in their process and allowing them to participate at the correction level is a great step.

We suggest that students make the corrections themselves. This helps us ensure that the students are actively involved with their paperwork. We only make corrections using the FAA system as a last step to resolve their file and it is only for verified students.
Joy, Using the FAA Access for corrections can save time and it's a good tool that can be utilized to keep the student involved in their own FA process. I think most FA Administrators have to find the best method for their demographic.

We have just recently begun using the FAA ACCESS, so not many corrections have been made via this method to date. It does seem as though it may reduce the delivery time of the new output document by a day. I can see a benefit for projessional judgments or dependency overrides.
Alessandra, It's great to see that you allow your students to participate in the financial aid process and take responsibility for their data in making the necessary corrections. The student's overall experience is important.

We do use the FA access for corrections when students are selected for verification and when they are not; we encourage the student to make their own correction so it avoids having them right a statement as to why a correction was made. We also have students initial and sign their ISIR’s if corrections are needed or have them come in to the office and we help them go online to make the necessary corrections. We like our students to be fully involved in their financial aid process and educate them on how it all works.
Robert ,
You point is excellent. We as FA Administrators do have a responsibility to encourage students to be accountable for their FA process. Responsibilities is an important part of our role in education and ensuring students are well-rounded in their overall process. Your contribution to this forum is appreciated.

I agree - it's very important to not otherwise enable the student to relay upon an institution for their financial aid enrollment - we find that independence and responsibility are great lessons learned throughout one's time spent at our campus.
Nicole ,
I am sure many FA Administrators feel this way. However, it is great to see students take responsibility for their data and make the necessary accurate corrections. I think most FA Administrators have to find the best method for their demographic. The student's overall experience is important.

Yes , I find it to be easy to access and items to adjust are very easy to use. It seems with student doing the corrections sometimes it becomes a bigger mess .
I do utilize FAA in order to process corrections. This way, I know that the new ISIR will be processed soon. If I have the student in my office, we will go onto the FAFSA site and perform the corrections on there as well. It all depends on the situation.
Katie, I think your process makes an interesting point on the need to ensure the students are aware and involved in the financial aid process. Communication with the student is the key to getting this done.

We do use the FA access for corrections only if the student was selected for verification. There has been a few times where we have had to make corrections where they weren't selected, but they had to make the corrections physically on the ISIR and sign off on it. If we are able to make the corrections on our own it does help reduce the amount of time for the student to come to the campus and it also helps ensure that the type of correction being done is accurate because sometimes a student may not understand what they are correcting or they may forget. The important thing to make sure of is that all staff is properly trained to follow up with the student if their EFC changes due to verification. Communication is key in making sure that the student is well aware of what is going on with their financial aid especially if there are changes in their eligibility.
Christopher,
I think your process makes an interesting point on the need to ensure that students are aware and involved in their Financial Aid process. It is good that you and your team have the ability to make certain corrections and keep an order process in place.

We do use the FAA process to make corrections. however, we do limit it to making corrections that are from the verification process. Otherwise, we like the student to make the correction. This helps to keep the student actively involved in their financial aid
Nichole
It is great the process works well for you and your students. It is important to have a process in place that benefits the students and the FA Team.

Yes, we utilize this process if the student is unable to make the corrections to the FAFSA themselves. The process is very easy to use.
Ana,
It is important that your institution can rely on the timeliness of processing corrections to your students' ISIR's. It is necessary to have a process in place to ensure that corrections are processed timely and receipt of corrected ISIR's are received timely. It is critical that you and your team know and recognize any breakdown in the process.
Sincerely,
