Hi Susan,

As I posted in one of the previous modules, the program requires the students to take a career management course in their 2nd to last quarter at the college. This course utilizes all the exercises outlined in this module. For further development of communication skills, students are required to perform mock interviews and role play employer/employee interactions in order for them to develop communication patterns and reactions.

In addition, the course requires the students to prepare a professional portfolio for use in job interviews. The faculty and staff encourage the students to take pictures of their projects and lab work for inclusion in their portfolio. This allows interviewers to actually see the skills the student or graduate is bringing to the table.

The students also receive encouragement from the industry professionals on field trips. The students have the opportunity to ask these professionals pointed questions relevant to their future experience.

The Job Seeking and Leadership and Management classes sound great. Are all students required to enroll in them? I'd be interested in the topics covered in each class. Any learning materials provided? The trick is to get a good pool of people from business who are willing and able to visit your school. They can offer tips and workshops on the subtleties of getting hired and keeping a job.
Good points.
Susan

Students at our college work on Forum 3 exercises in a Job Seeking Class as well as Leadership and Management classes. More than once, people from businesses have come in to help with mock interviews, allowing students to see how well they would do if applying for a job in their field.
