Yes I realize that however we are a fire department that has a state certified training center so the main mission statement is one that encompasses the city's mission, We are going to have to create a seperate mission statement that relates to the fire academy only. Guess I have to talk to the Fire Chief about that.

We currently have a mission statement that covers the broad spectrum of what the fire department is about, but I think that we (staff) are going to have to modify or recreate a statement that best defines what the fire academy is about. I have been teaching here at our fire academy since its inception and I don't remember seeing anything more specific to the academy. UUUHHMMM something for me to start working on.

It sounds like you have a great school mission statement and certainly some of those goals may be reflected in your alumni statement. I encourage you to really think through the goals you have for your alumni association or community and write your alumni mission statement to match those goals.

I like the idea of a hybrid - taking the current direction with a twist down the path of your alumni association direction.

I will hybridize the mission statement of the school with the goals of the association. This is a first attempt at this so I feel connecting with grads long ago is most important to our success. We are a audio technology school and have been around a long time. We have many outstanding alumni that will also help in the promotion of the school and its standing in the industry.

We will most likely draft a new mission statement, based somewhat off of the schools official mission statement, as it is completely focused on education, and our alumni association will be used more for networking, job placement, and some continuing educational purposes. A draft of it would read "To continue fostering our world-wide professional community of graduates in an effort to provide proactive placement, networking, and continuing education within the changing creative media industry."
"To assist students and graduates in enabling the connection between academic accomplishments and their career path." This is just a starting point; I still need to include a sentence on building relationships with potential employers.

So, my question to you would be - should the mission statement for your alumni association be the same or do you have different goals? What exactly do you want to accomplish with your alumni?
Often Alumni Associations take a portion of their institution's mission statement, but then add to it with more specific direction toward their graduates.

Our school has created a mission statement. It basically states what we do for our students and how we supply them with the necessary tools and technical training needed to function in a variety of medical settings.

I would create a new mission statement for the alumni associate since it will include members from the comunity and past students to bring them together which will help to co-market the two and still educate them on new ideas, laws, techniques used in the beauty and wellness profession.
