Mission Statement Development
Draft a mission statement. Will you adapt the mission statement from your school or create a unique mission statement?
Roszona,
So, what would be a draft of your mission statement?
I'd like you to take a stab at what would give you direction and keep you focused???
June Gudeman
The Mission gives direction and keeps all focused.
Jennifer,
Excellent mission statement! I like it!
June Gudeman
here is a draft...
Our mission is to be world class leaders that ensure every alumni is informed, involved and committed to the success of the University. To inspire our community in the salon, spa and beauty industry for the purpose of beautification, education and successful occupation.
Linnet,
I'm unclear as to what you mean by "Every careers and area is different and unique"? Could you clarify? Could you give me an idea of what your mission statement might be?
June Gudeman
Every careers and area is different and unique so I would definitely create a new one.
Maria Rosario,
Certainly, your team would need to decide the direction and the reason for your existence before you are able to create your mission statement. Do you think any part of it would include pieces of your institution's statement?
June Gudeman
I prefer to create a unique mission statement that would involved all persons involved in the Alumni Association. Like meeting of the minds. An original mission statement would be more meaningful when alumni read it and it doesn't sound like it was composed with no effort.
Elizabeth,
So what's your mission statement? I'd like to see a rough draft?
June Gudeman
Alumni Relations Mission Statement should draw inspiration from and support the institutional mission statement.
Leticia,
Yes that's what your curriculum suggests, the mission statement should wrap both the concept of the school's mission as well as the focus of the alumni. So, give it a shot - what would a rough draft mission statement look like for your alumni association?
June Gudeman
the mission statement should be created as "unique" adapting the school mission statement as well as the goals of the advisory board members.
Elizabeth,
It's a good idea to include the basic premise of the school's mission statement and then enhance with the direction of your alumni statement. Would you be willing to share your school's mission and your alumni's?
June Gudeman
I would use the school's mission statement to drive the Alumni Association's. The Association's mission should further enhance the school's.
Milagros,
Your institution's mission statement sounds like it does speak to your alumni as well, possibly just with some wording changes. I like your idea of challenging your graduates to development and community service. I'd challenge you to attempt to wrap all of your Alumni Mission Statement into one sentence.
That will be a challenge.
June Gudeman
Because our mission statement focuses on the training of our students to become independent TCM practitioners, this could not be used for our alumni. The mission statement for our alumni would have to focus on job placement, developing their career, community service, etc.
Shawn,
I am in agreement that incorporating portions of your current college mission statement into your alumni mission statement is wise. So, what will your alumni mission statement be and what will it include that is not in your current college mission?
June Gudeman
A current overall mission statement is in existence for our College, so I believe that the best course of action in setting up the Alumni mission statement is to incorporate aspects of the College's mission statement into it. Doing this will ensure that the mission of the alumni association ties directly into the overall mission of the College.
Debra,
I certainly agree with all of your statements. It's interesting you're able to use the same mission statement for your school as for your alumni. Most school's mission statements do not include anything related to "after graduation".
Glad to hear it!
June Gudeman
