I agree with everyone that the five keys are a great guideline to behavior on the job. For many of our graduates this will be their first job and having these guidelines in black and white will support the lessons we have taught them throughout the class.
Joshuah,
You're most welcome..best of luck in all your endeavors!

Thanks again, for your positive words. I truly love working with the students and empowering them to be proud of their accomplisments and being succesful.
Nancy,
You are so right! When you begin your career with good work habits, you are setting yourself up for increasing success over time, and a greater sense of self worth.

Joshuah,
I like what you say about work being more than just collecting a paycheck, and your encouraging students to look closely at why a particular key might be a challenge for them. Really great advice.

Understanding these keys to success will most certainly help students/employees overcome any obstacle they may have in the work force. These keys also will develope confidence and help people understand that working is more than just collecting a paycheck, it is about being a whole person and meeting not only the employers expectations but your own. Understaning these will also help you know if you are in the right type of work. If you are having a hard time with one particular key, take a closer look to discover why?
I feel that the 5 keys are the foundation to not just immediate success but lasting success. Implementing these 5 key tips will not only allow a student to reach success but eventually to surpass their initial work goals. Having good work habits from the beginning is crucial to the overall employee one will become.
I believe that for some it will be easy to implement all 5 right off the bat and for others a bit of a struggle but in my opinion it's better to adhere to these 5 tips right out the gate instead of later on when being confronted with work problems or conflicts.
The Five Keys represent a standard that can prepare and guide students in preparation for their job searches, for when they begin a new job, and can serve as a reminder for them when they've been at a job for a while. Those students who adopt this way of being will likely be respected, grow in their job, and be recognized for their professionalism.
Because it is good to have a core base to work from.
Kathy,
Indeed, it is a tricky and confusing road without a map..I'm glad you see the five keys are being helpful for students navigating these foreign waters.
Elizabeth Kemler
I don't know that I can add much more to what has already been stated. Getting a job is just step one. Keeping and excelling in the job is still a journey and without a road map or a guidebook to keep us on track, it might be a short trip.
Also, most of our graduates are entering a new field of work and there are many unknowns. I believe that using these keys will be significant in their new beginnings where they have no previous history and can make a fresh start (even though they can learn from their past). It's like being handed the instruction manual of your new future. Those who read and follow instructions are likely to find that it will work better than if you didn't.
I think a lot of students don't know how to grow in a job, and when they have a guide like five keys, they can check to see if they are meeting those expectations.
Josephine,
Indeed, it has been established repeatedly by publications as notable as The New York Times and the Wall St Journal that communication skills are the single biggest factor in hiring.
Elizabeth Kemler
The Five Keys to Work Success are so important for students because they are the foundation of being productive in the worksforce. These basic principles of effective communication, collaboration, and respect are vital. It's important for students to remember employers will hire for attitude not skill.
Samirah,
This is a great approach-simple but very powerful.
Elizabeth Kemler
Preparation and success go hand in hand. The students must be ready when an opportunity comes. They also need to be aware of how their work ethic will assist in their success. Treating others as you would like to be treated, goes a long way. When working with people, you will need to be able to meet their needs as you would have them meet yours. When you believe in yourself and your potential, people pick up that, and they will treat you according to how they believe, you believe, you should be treated. When you lead, you will always succeed.
Mary,
I agree..even when you know these things, you can get off track-especially if you're in a job you don't love. It's worth it to continually check ourselves.
Elizabeth Kemler
They are guides to help a new graduate or student to develop themselves, but they are also very important for a graduate who might be changing positions. It is wise for all of us to occasionally check ourselves to make sure we are mentoring the 5 to others.
The Five Keys to Work Success are the foundation to be successful, and it is our job to teach them this information.
Paulette,
I can't add a thing-you said it perfectly!
