Following Customer Trends
Modern technology has bloosemed into a discipline of interconnectivity between the general population and business/corporation owners. While following customer trends alots for specificity in meeting customer needs, there has be an margin of breaching of confidentiality in order to establish such specific trends. Thus, following customer trends needs to equally consider meeting customer needs and confidentiality.
Roy, Thank you for clarification, it makes perfect sense!

Depends on how it is used...if it being used for "Phishing Expeditions" or for general tracking information, then no, I really don't like it. Some people will use the Internet for "Window Shopping" some don't. I don't window shop, I am usually going for something specific. If I'm looking for Cabling tools, then I don't need targeted ads for A/V Converters because that was what I was looking for last week. I also know for a fact, depending on the web-site, that they are harvesting information on you for Spam purposes, as well as other not-so-good reasons. (The problem of having taught Computer Security for a while.)
Roy, Your point is appreciated and adds value to this discussion. I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. It feels like you don't see this kid of online tracking as a value for customization returning customer experiences, is that correct?

Problem...web designers are not or do not care about their target audience. Young individuals just don't know, or even don't care about being tracked, whereas some of us from an earlier era have no desire to be tracked...example, Amazon, since you used that for tracking purposes...I could care less what I have already looked at, Amazon is NOT my primary store, there are things that I will NOT buy online unless I can touch and feel first. If I go to Amazon, I am looking for something in particular, and not just browsing or window shopping. There is no way to "Opt-out" on this tracking. there is a difference between tracking ("Stalking") and trying to make my on-line shopping experience better...
Michele, Very true. How does your institution do that?
