Do you then have individuals that get over 100%? Also, in your teaching environment does it give an unfair advantage to individuals that don't do it right the first time, but have time to work on additional projects? Do you have individuals dedicated to doing all the assignments properly initially but are short on time and get the same or lesser scores as someone with time to do extra credit?
In my current environment I have a hard time with extra credit for points added to their total because it gives an advantage to some individuals that are not working and/or did not do the assignment properly in the beginning. However, I have found that the same can be accomplished by using a little different terminology and rules. I give special projects which while they don't add to the points do add recognition and a level of accomplishment.
