Retention
Retention is a problem that is everybody's responsibility, from facility maintenance to the school director....
Good point, Mike. How does the institution monitor the performance of staff and faculty on the encounters with students?
I think a big part of retention has to do with everyone the student encounters. Everyone that has contact with any student should always show concern and respect to the individual.
You are correct. Everyone who interacts with students is responsible for retention.
I belive one of the main problems alot of people have with the retention. Is that they think they are the boss and and do not treat the students fairly. In some cases maybe not even like adults. I belive the Big Me Little You may need to be looked at. A fairly treated student will result in a higher retention rate.
Absolutely, in our school all Instructors have been guided to recognize students in possible distress, it could be attendance, grades or even in personality. An instructor can address the situation him/herself or direct it to certain instructors that have been trained to handle these situations. These instructors have been titled “Student Success Instructors” (SSI). If a SSI instructor cannot help a student with his or her issues, he has the resources to turn the student over to other individuals that have the expertise to aid the student. This process is monitored for results and improvement and has been a success.
