Getting those students back that we have lost
We send out letters a week after students have left school to let them know we miss them and would like to se ethem come back. We make sure to personalize this letter with information specific to the individual student. Then 30 days after they have been gone, we will send a similar letter letting them know what they need to do to come back to school. We will often fowwol up with a phone call if we have not heard form them within 6 months.
We also created a label for our envelopes when we send out these letters specific to our department so the students would not think it was a letter from our billing and collections department and just toss it aside.
I really like the idea of the letter writing and personalizing it. Of course, I'm old fashioned. Our campus uses the phone and internet as our main way to reach out to students who withdrew from the program. We average about 15 re-entered students per month. Reading different ways to reconnect with these students gets the little grey cells moving. Are we utilizing every possible approach to help people finsh what they began? Good thoughts, Janet
When student are ready to come back and continue with their goals will call us?
I would love this idea of getting those student we lost or the one that wasn't ready to start might have change their minds and want to succeed with their goals in the medical field to come back and give it another try.
How do the re-joining students make up the missed time/material so they can be part of their entering class cadre?
My college gets students back when they want to re-join their entering class cadre.
Peer loyalty.
Some students are retained by a few motivating instructors.
We have found that for necessary drops, getting their commitment to return at the same time they are dropping is invaluable. We create a plan with the student that will work around their circumstance and target a return date.
We then keep in touch freqently to follow up with student to work with any obstacles that may occur which would prevent the reenter.
Wow that is awsome. We try to talk about any issues with students on a daily basis. remind them daily what the services we have are be open & approchable.
We re-enter quit a few students. Last fiscal year was a little worse with the economy, we had 13 students come back but the year before we had over 20. Our graduation rate is pretty good. I would say about 90% of students that re-enter graduate. We make them wait at least 30 days after they have terminated to apply for re-entry. They must write a letter to the Campus President. Once we receive their letter, they must come in to meet with her to discuss the issues related to the student dropping and what changes they have made to help them be successful. They are also required to have a plan of action to prevent those same issues for re-occuring.
Great program! What are your results in re-entries? What is the graduation rate of the re-enters?
