Student Retension
Keeping student involved in the lessons and making sure they understand their participation will move them to the desired goal. Retension is commitment from everyone on making the outcome positive for the students. Standards can not be lowered to meet the type of students, instructors must raise the level to reach the goal, therefore most students will rise to the upgrade. Those with special circumstances will need to speak up. Schools program meets the requirements, some students may have to repeat the class.
Kisha, this is an important message. How do you communicate it to your students?
I agree but also if we as Instructors can relay to our students that their reward won't always be up front and that sometime it takes time to see the results. we live in a world of i want it now. then when the goals are met it is so sweet cause we have not rushed it.
I love your first statement. If the student is not involved it is hard for them to reach their goal. We have a policy that awards participation points toward their grade for being in class, being prepared, and paticipating. When they understand the more they put in the more they get out 99% are eager to reach their goal.
Katrena, what's the source of the pressure to lower standards? Is it overt or just a feeling? It will take the entire school working together to overcome this.
Loren Kroh
I find that in an effort to retain students instructors do feel pressure to lower the standards. It takes the entire school working together to ensure this does not occur.
