I have found that we really need to work hard to keep them. Yes we have to teach the students what they need, but it is just as important to engage them and use topics that they like and mix those topics into what I teach.
Yes, I have shared my experiences with the students to other instructors. Attendance has been effected by the changes, for the better.
Brenda, have you shared your success with your colleagues? It probably would be useful to hear what techniques are working for you, particularly for the less experienced instructors.
I agree. When I am teaching my students I tend to add some type of activity or hands on learning procedure to keep them engaged. Since I have been doing this my students tend to come to every class on time.
