What are some whys we can get the students to understand attrition?
One of the things I struggle with is how far to go with students. There has to be clear cut boundaries with how to deal with a students stressors or it can become overwhelming and stressful to the instructor.
Students understand attrition in a very personal way, Jill. At the institutional level, it's not a concept that they care much about. The important thing to them is the impact of life's barriers to their goal. For each student, the attrition rate is either 0% or 100%, depending on their ability to deal with the issues they are confronting. As an instructor, your role is to help them clarify the issues and identify solutions.
