Nicol, do you encourage the peer support systems or do they just happen? Do those providing the support get any training for that or any extra credit for their efforts?

I usually have round-the-table discussion to include students in their learning process. At times some do express concerns in which peers may provide some encourgement as well as myself. Some peers become a support system for others during the duration of the quarter.
I strongly agree with you.
This is why I feel we should always be encouraging. We should let the students know that it is never too late, and that anything can be overcome with a positive attitude.
For some students stress can be overwhelming and can lead to frailer in class ,as instructors we must try to see if we can somehow be of help and if so try to lead the student in the right direction .

We all have stress in our life,how we manage with it depends on the person. I found that by managing time or talk to some one it can be very helpful.
We all have stress, learning how to cope with it and learning to relax will help deal with it.
Stress is a result much of the time of trying to control things we can't.
For students, that escape may be video games ... and not just for a short time. Do you try to provide guidance to your students on ways to address stress?
in order to deal with stress you need an outlet to get away from the things that stress you out. find an activity that will seperate you from the real world for a short time- a 50 mile bike ride works for me every time.
Stress can definitely be bad if it is not managed in the correct way. It is important to always be aware of what the stress causers are, even the most successful can experience stress.
Everyone has stress you just need to learn how to cope and deal during your daily activites.
