just listen

Listen to student concerns and be empathetic to their needs.

Chef Mark Clink

Daphne, is there a system in place that allows veteran instructors to share their experiences with new faculty members? We all can learn from each other and benefit from the perspective of others on problem solving.

As any human being, when you feel that your voice has been heard; you feel better automatically. As an instructor, we've already heard most of the issues previously from other students. Therefore when we listen, we have an opportunity to guide and counsel them. Also we learn so much more about them, and we become less judgmental toward them and more helpful.

Listening to the student can sometimes be a one-way street. As long as they know you have heard them, it can make a world of difference. Use the mirroring technique to make sure they know and comprehend.

You have to listen to the students cause if not you will not know how to teach to them so they can learn.

You must always listen to students because you can learn how they learn
