Stress
Stress is a killer. It can cause all kinds of health problems in our indusrty.
Yes it is , that is why I tell my students that they can come to me. I want them to be as healthy as possible. School is very stressful. I try to be the kind of instructor that the students can depend on and also be firm with teaching.
Stress in this industry is very high. I feel to cope with this you need to find other outlets such as family and friends that understand what we go through as chefs. It helps to have people that can just hear you out!
I help students address stress in the classroom and if they need further counseling, I would refer them to a department chair. At this time, LCB-LA does not have a program to deal with stress. A gym membership assistance program for faculty and staff or some type of physical activity program for students would help in stress reduction.
Is your department head aware of the issues you have outlined? Is he/she a resource to mitigate some of the pressure you are feeling?
If a student came to you with these issues, what would you do?
yes, we are dealing with a lot of presure in our school, mostky from our corporate SBU.
For example we are told to complete this present course with a today deadline, and my schedule does not alowed me a minute to do that. However we still get threaten to get a warning in our HR file if we do not do it on time. we are strugeling with a new disorganized program and I personaly teach 2 class of 3 hours and 35 minutes each, and do not have enough time to deal with these online course where we learn stuff that our corporate managers do not even apply. I think it will be more important for retemtion to focus on making our students happy and giving them the education they pay for, instead of having other training courses priority for faculty.
Do you address problems related to stress in your classrooms? Is there any program to deal with staff and faculty stress?
