Stress and Consequences

There are two types of stress: eustress-or good stress, when the student anticipates a positeve event; or the stress we are mostly familiar with the strain of dealimg with problems that are difficult to overcome. For most students we are concerned with the stresses that arise from attending college and personal stress, the inability to pay the rent, or some other such problem, which is not easily rectifiable.

Solving the "problem" stress and the issues that it causes, can be unmanageable. Dealing with positve stress, is much easier of course, allowing the individual a number of different, choices resulting in a positive outcome.

The stress involved with "strain" on the individual's life, can cause an erosive personality disorder, or other problems affecting the student's performance.

Does you school have a specific life skills course or are you suggesting that stress management be integrated within the core curriculum? How do you monitor its effectiveness?

The Schools role is grater than the acedemics being taught. Teaching some life/ stress management incorperated within the lessons can be invaluable.

Simple statement, Teresa. Complex process. What's the school's responsibility to facilitate the learning?

Stress is a part of life, we just have to learn to live and manage it.

I agree. At times when you have so many things one after another, its overwhelming to those that have been "in the real world" for years. It can be worse for those that have "real world" problems at a younger age.

stress in a persons life is a good thing as long as its in moderation if not then things cane become overwhelming but if we break it down and take a step back and look at it from another view then that stress can easily be defeated weather it be good or bad stress

eugene, eustress is a new concept for me. Have you been able to find creative, positive uses for this sense of fulfillment?
